Muffler Guards

Anyone who has stood next to a semi's stack knows how hot it can get. Regular operation generates extreme exhaust heat that rises under heavy loads and during regeneration cycles. A muffler guard, also known as a heat shield or exhaust shield, covers the stack to protect people and your truck from that heat.

At Truck Pipes USA, we offer a variety of aluminized and stainless steel muffler guards in various sizes. Choose the right one to protect yourself and your rig and to stay in compliance with the law.

Benefits of Muffler Guards

Thin margins often make it difficult to decide which upgrades make the most sense. Muffler guards are a solid choice to help you avoid injuries, downtime, and costly repairs.

Rig Protection

The gap between the stack and the muffler guard allows hot exhaust to cool before reaching nearby parts of the rig. This protects your paint and wiring or lines that aren't made to stand up to intense heat. It can also reduce the heat entering a sleeper berth or penetrating the walls of your rig.

Gravel, road debris, and other hazards are a constant threat to exposed parts of your truck. A muffler guard shields against dents, dings, and scratches. This protection can extend the life of your muffler and surrounding pipes.

A muffler guard also protects against corrosion in areas with harsh winters. Ice, road salt, and grime coat the guard instead of other components, making for easier maintenance and cleaning.

Burn Protection

Drivers, passengers, mechanics, and inspectors face burn risks when they get near unprotected stacks while entering or exiting the cab, or during refueling or maintenance. Heat shields reduce this risk, offering a surface with a much lower temperature than the muffler or pipes.

Outfitting a fleet with muffler guards is a good business practice, as they can reduce workplace injuries and accidents.

Regulatory Compliance

Federal law does not strictly require muffler guards. However, under 49 CFR § 393.83 (a), your truck's exhaust system can't be configured in a way that would likely cause burning or other damage to the fuel supply, electrical wiring, or combustible materials. Some states may require heat shields to pass safety inspections.

It isn't worth risking a failed inspection or expensive fines because you don't have the proper heat shield on your rig.

Appearance

High-quality muffler guards get the job done and look good doing it. They are sleek and can complement other components, such as polished stainless steel grill guards and mirrors. For owner-operators and fleet managers, that professional look projects a sense of pride in your rig and your business's image.
