Generator Exhaust

Large semi trucks require high-performance engines to haul heavy loads across wide distances. The cabs also require power for climate control, lights, and other equipment. To power these features when the main engine isn’t running, semis usually have generator engines, also known as auxiliary power units (APUs). These engines also cause exhaust, which is why you need a generator exhaust system.

Why You Need Generator Exhaust

Without an exhaust system for the generator, toxic gases, including carbon monoxide, could build up in your cab. Generator exhaust also reduces engine noise when your truck is at rest and minimizes back pressure into the main exhaust flow.

A diesel generator exhaust system converts harmful pollutants from diesel fuel into nitrogen and water. This helps improve your engine’s performance and keeps your rig compliant with environmental regulations.

How Generator Exhaust Works

Generator exhaust pipes connect to the generator to reroute gases from the sleeper cab to the top or rear of the truck. You mount them behind the cab and attach brackets, tubes, and pipes based on the generator’s frame.

Use tubes and exhaust elbows to connect components of your generator exhaust system to direct fumes away from the cab.

How To Choose the Right Generator Exhaust Pipes and Parts

Start by measuring the inside diameter and outside diameter of your muffler and choose a part that fits securely. Make sure the generator exhaust pipes or tubes are secure with clamps. You can use any clamp that matches the pipe’s diameter.

If you still have your APU’s owner’s manual, see if it recommends specific generator exhaust parts. If not, look up the brand online to find specifications, or measure the muffler yourself.

Generator Exhaust for Industrial Generators

Truck APUs aren’t the only generators in need of exhaust systems. Industrial generators also create gases that build up in the environment and potentially put people at risk. Our generator exhaust elbows, tubes, and other components also work on these generators.

Attach them to your generator’s muffler or exhaust manifold and route the exhaust to a safe external location. Make sure the exhaust system is located away from building and equipment air intakes and that the pipe isn’t near anything combustible.

Consult local environmental regulations and building codes to design your exhaust system.
